Making short stories 
a big (digital) deal.
In 2011, I started Little Fiction | Big Truths — a (mostly digital) publisher of short fiction and nonfiction stories. When thinking of the idea for the publication, I examined the short story landscape (and the publishing landscape at large) to determine what I could offer that was different and sustainable, what would get noticed. That idea was to package our titles as standalone singles, complete with individual custom covers, and offer them to read online or to download and read later.
In just a few short years, Little Fiction | Big Truths has attracted the attention of some of North America’s best and brightest emerging authors, and has garnered press from CBC Radio, among others. Recently, the publication was named one of the best online literary magazines by the pop culture giant, Bustle.com. After cementing the brand in the world of online publishing, we made the move to bring Little Fiction | Big Truths into print, with three successfully crowdfunded anthologies.
In my roles as owner, creative director, and managing editor, I’ve been responsible for most of the day-to-day operations: creating and maintaining the brand identity, building and maintaining web content (including all UX and UI design), analyzing website and social media analytics, handling the layout and design of our printed books, ePubs, and related materials, and executing all aspects of our marketing, including trailers…
What began as a one-person operation, Little Fiction | Big Truths is now in the hands of a small, hard-working, and dedicated team of volunteer editors and readers. Our most read stories have been viewed / downloaded nearly 3,000 times each (and some of them have even been turned in tote bags), a number of our authors have gone on to release critically-acclaimed short story collections and novels.
